Overview

Receiving college credit through RIT for PLTW coursework has four phases:

  1. Qualifying for credit (no cost)
  2. Determining credit acceptance before purchasing credit
  3. Registering for and purchasing credit
  4. Sending a transcript to the college you attend

Qualifying for credit (late June at end of course)
The Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) partners with Project Lead the Way (PLTW) to award qualified students college credit.  Completing an End of Course Assessment may qualify a student for three transferable college credits from the Rochester Institute of Technology, as if they had taken a single, three-credit course there*.
*Like credits earned at a community college, PLTW RIT credits can transfer to colleges students ultimately attend

Qualification requires a minimum final course average of 85, and minimum End of Course (EoC) exam scores that vary by course.  RIT course letter grades are assigned according to these grading keys.

What is my PLTW EoC Assessment score?

Determining credit acceptance before purchasing credit

All colleges and universities establish their own policies for accepting credits and those decisions are based on many factors.  Most often, the credits are counted as ‘free’ electives.  It is important for students to check with their prospective colleges/universities as to whether or not the credit is accepted.  At other (non-RIT) colleges or universities, letter grades are typically replaced by "TR" or some other transcript code, having no effect on GPA.

Should I purchase RIT PLTW credit?

Registering for and purchasing credit

When parents of qualifying students register online for college credit, RIT adds the corresponding three-credit RIT PLTW course to the student's RIT (college) transcript.  Three credits through RIT PLTW cost a total of $225.

Sending a transcript to the college you attend

At the end of the Fall semester, students who have registered for credit will receive a letter from RIT confirming the college credit awarded.  Students who attend colleges other than RIT may request that a transcript be sent to those schools by creating and accessing their account at

https://www.rit.edu/academicaffairs/registrar/transcripts

There is a fee for transcripts.
